The Penn State College of Arts and Architecture’s Woskob Family Gallery, located at 146 S. Allen Street in downtown State College, will host a cross-disciplinary faculty panel to discuss the current migration landscape, asylum and refugee law and on-the-ground advocacy efforts on April 16 at 4 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia, Samuel Weiss faculty scholar and founding director of the Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic; and Social Science Research Insitute cofunded faculty members Jennifer Van Hook, Roy C. Buck professor of sociology and demography and director of the Population Research Institute; and Nicole Kreisberg, assistant professor of public policy and sociology.

Wadhia will offer a primer on U.S. asylum and refugee law, followed by updates on recent policy changes; Van Hook will present a demographic overview of refugee and humanitarian admissions to the U.S. over time; and Kreisberg will provide a firsthand look at refugee resettlement challenges — from employment to integration.

Closing remarks will be delivered by Andres David Arias Hernandez, Penn State Dickinson Law student and member of the Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, followed by a Q&A and light refreshments.
