The NIH, as well as several academic journals across disciplines, are now requiring (or soon will be) the use of an ORCID ID when submitting certain proposals or papers. The benefits to the worldwide research community are many - identification by the non-profit organization, ORCID, helps researchers maintain a consistent identity across time and through changes in their institutional affiliations; it is especially helpful in managing confusion that results from researchers with the same name.
We are confident that we will continue to see funding and publishing organizations require ORCID IDs, and so Penn State is asking all researchers adopt an ORCID ID. Fortunately, the process is very easy.
- Visit https://orcid.identity.psu.edu/
- If you already have an ORCID, you will be asked to log in and link your ID to your Penn State ID.
- If you do not have an ORCID, you will be prompted to create one, which you can then link to your Penn State ID.
That's it! Your ORCID is permanent and travels with you, even if you leave Penn State. Complete instructions or additional help is provided by the University Libraries at http://orcid.psu.edu.
