David Ramey, PRI associate and assistant professor of sociology and criminology, was recently selected as the Roy C. Buck Award recipient for his paper titled, "The influence of early school punishment and therapy/medication on social control experiences during young adulthood”, published in Criminology.
Ramey’s work focuses on the relationships between race and ethnicity, misbehavior or crime, and the use of formal and informal social control. Currently, his primary research examines the use of punitive responses to childhood misbehavior versus the use of therapy and/or medication.
The purpose of the Roy C. Buck Award in the College of the Liberal Arts is to recognize the best article accepted or published by a refereed scholarly journal in the social sciences within the last year, with some preference given to articles focusing on minority issues in the United States.
