Valarie King’s research focuses on intergenerational relationships across the life course. A primary focus of her research concerns father’s relationships with their children. A current project funded by the National Science Foundation examines the factors associated with positive relationships between stepfathers and stepchildren, and the consequences of stepfather involvement for stepchild well-being during adolescence and the transition to adulthood. She teaches courses on the sociology of aging, family sociology, and family policy.
